Sometimes the Collector shows up blocking your only path and you gotta expend way too much fighting him than you should normally. One bad Crit, one single Affliction can send the whole thing into a death spiral. Hailing from a skilled and savage tribe, its no surprise she has. On the other hand, even the biggest fan of Darkest Dungeon can't deny that the RNG can ruin every single setup in the game. Her most impressive skill is her diverse methods of damage output. You've got a lot more to think about, more things can go wrong, and when they do go wrong they have lasting impacts. Darkest Dungeon has good gameplay in and of itself, but I dont think its an exaggeration to say that the ambience the narrator provides really elevates the entire experience from 'good' to 'great. Your party members aren't the unshakable badasses you'd see in Final Fantasy. On the one hand, yes, this is a thinking man's RPG.

The BH was beyond the point of no return of mental stress and became abusive, and the rest of the heroes where in low HP or with serious debuffs that limited their chance of landing a hit. My team was Arb, Ocultist, Bounty Hunter and a Crusader.

If one would think that Darkest Dungeon is a Crapsack World filled with nothing but cosmic horror and hopelessness, theyd be wrong. A chance to steel oneself against the coming horrors. There is another, that became une of my favorites because of the context of the momement it was spoken: Circled in the dark, the battle may yet be won.
